Individual arrival and accommodation. The old town of Weißenburg is characterized by its late medieval timber-framed buildings and Baroque middle-class houses, which we can explore on a comfortable stroll through the city.

We start our tour by cycling along the Altmühl River via Treuchtlingen, Pappenheim and Dollnstein up to the Baroque episcopal and university city of Eichstätt, where a tour across the Residenzplatz and Willibald Castle is commendable.

We cycle through the Wacholderheide (Juniper Heath), a protected cultural landscape framed by palaces and castles. Over Kipfenberg and Kinding the bicycle path leads us to Beilngries and Dietfurt, known as “Chinese Town” with its “Chinese Carnival”.

The last part along the Altmühl River leads us to Riedenburg and Kelheim, where it joins with the Danube. From here we cycle on the Danube Cycle Path into the former imperial city of Regensburg. A walk is the best way to discover the beauty of this medieval town. Today’s longer stage may, on enquiry, be divided up to include an overnight-stay in Kelheim.

We leave Regensburg across the Danube bridge, cycle past the castle ruin of Donaustauf and soon reach the neo-classical Walhalla temple. Afterwards, we follow the Danube, this time in south-east direction, along the Bavarian Forest to the old Bavarian duke town of Straubing.

After the village of Bogen we stay on the northern side of the Danube and cycle via Pfelling to Mariaposching. A visit to Metten Monastery should not be missed before we head to the town of Deggendorf. The sepulchral church with its Baroque tower is the town’s landmark.

Passing the Benedictine Monastery of Niederaltaich, we cycle to Winzer, where we can look at the ruins of the oldest castle of the region. On quiet back roads we continue to Vilshofen. In the late afternoon we reach the history-charged city of Passau, which sits on the three rivers of Danube, Inn and Ilz.
