From the river Inn to the Salzkammergut…

Let’s start out on a fascinating bicycle tour that takes us back to the times of the old Romans! The Romans have left many find spots in Upper Austria, which we can discover on our way to the Attersee. Afterwards we can relax and enjoy nature on the banks of what must surely be the most beautiful lakes of the Salzkammergut.

Itinerary

1. Day: Schärding

Individual arrival in Schärding and overnight-stay. If there is enough time, we can slip in a bicycle trip to Passau, the “city of three rivers”, which is only 17 km away and is home to the Roman museum of Fort Boiotro.

2. Day: Schärding - Altheim/Kirchheim (approx. 50 km)

Bicycle tour along the Bavarian bank of the river Inn via Neuhaus and Pocking (exhibition of excavation findings) to Bad Füssing. At Ering we cross the Inn and cycle as far as Altheim/Kirchheim (Roman museum in Altheim).

3. Day: Altheim/Kirchheim - Attersee/surroundings (approx. 55 km)

From Kirchheim, where we are invited to retrace the natural trail and teachings of Saint Hildegard von Bingen, we cycle to Waldzell and onwards in the direction of Attersee.

4. Day: Attersee/surroundings - Unterach (approx. 15 km)

On this day we are free to explore lake Attersee, while Unterach offers further fascinating small finds from Roman times.

5. Day: Unterach - Mondsee (approx. 14 km)

We cycle along the northern part of lake Mondsee and into the town of Mondsee with its splendorous castles and magnificent collegiate church.

6. Day: Mondsee - Wolfgangsee (approx. 30 km)

Today we continue on the opposite side of lake Mondsee via St. Lorenz and Scharfling and past the deep-green Krotensee to St. Gilgen and Strobl.

7. Day: Wolfgangsee - Salzburg (approx. 50 km)

The last stage leads us back to the southern bank of lake Mondsee to St. Lorenz. Via Thalgau and Eugendorf we reach Salzburg, the city of Mozart.

8. Day: Salzburg
