Altmühl Valley and Danube

History along the Altmühl and Danube River...

On its way from the Franconian Mountains to the Danube, the Altmühl flows through magnificent regions. Cycling through medieval cities, which still bear the seal of the Romans, and past castles, we bear witness to the rich and eventful past of Altmühltal Valley. On your journey you also visit Straubing, the heart of the Gäuboden landscape. From Deggendorf, the portal to the Bavarian Forest, it is only a stone’s throw to Passau, a city which is sometimes affectionately called the “Venice of the North” by citizens and tourists.

Along Bavaria’s most romantic rivers…

This bicycle tour invites us to experience the coarse amiability of the Upper Palatinate, the charm of Middle Franconia and the culinary delights of Bavarian cooking. Let’s stop for a bit to eat at hearty beer gardens and enjoy the land of comfort and hospitality on the one hand, and the land of history and Baroque on the other. Five rivers – the Vils, Naab, Danube, Altmühl, and Pegnitz - are our companions along the way.

Total length: approx. 290-320 bicycle kilometres
