Cycling along Werra and Fulda 7 days option

Where structure work is so much more than mere architecture…

Pictures out of an idyllic postcard are what we encounter on this tour through a nature that is almost untouched and in which the rivers Fulda and Werra wind their way through the low mountain range and river valleys. Proud fortresses, and old cities with their half-timbered buildings accompany us along the former inner German border. Towns such as Eschwege tell us their history, other make fairytales come to life; others still, such as the Documenta city of Kassel devotes itself to art.

Total length: approx. 210 bicycle kilometres

1. Day: Hann. Münden

Individual arrival until late afternoon and accommodation. Here the Werra and Fulda flow together to form the Weser River. The city of Hann. Münden, which is small, tranquil, and somehow cosy, presents over 700 half-timbered buildings from six centuries.

2. Day: Hann. Münden - Kassel (approx. 35 km)

Today we cycle along the Fulda to Kassel, the capital of the “Deutschen Märchenstraße” or German Fairytale Road. The famous world art exhibition Documenta, which takes place here every 5 years, lures tourists and art lovers from all over the world and promises them a unique experience. In the years between, however, Kassel otherwise fascinates with its extraordinary museum landscape, the Karlsaue State Park, and the Wilhelmshöhe Mountain Park with the enormous castle and the Hercules Statue.

3. Day: Kassel - Melsungen (approx. 40 km)

Today we follow the Fulda again into the over 1000-year-old half-timbered city of Melsungen. Here we can admire the flower-adorned alleyways as well as the landgrave castle, the Gothic-Roman city church, and the idyllic market place.

4. Day: Melsungen - Rotenburg an der Fulda (approx. 30 km)

From Melsungen our journey continues to the densely wooded North of Hessen, where we arrive in the over 750-year-old town of Rotenburg an der Fulda, which is fortified with walls and turrets.

5. Day: Rotenburg an der Fulda - Eschwege (approx. 40 km)

Today’s stage takes us through the charming lower mountain range between Fulda and Werra to Eschwege. Some of the half-timbered houses in this city express a lot of character by its gently sloping position. The citizens of this city adorn their houses lovingly – let’s keep an eye out for these little details!

6. Day: Eschwege - Witzenhausen (approx. 40 km)

We cycle at a leisurely pace along the Werra into the cherry town of Witzenhausen. The old town bears evidence of medieval culture and architecture.

7. Day: Witzenhausen - Hann. Münden (approx. 25 km)

A small section farther along the Werra we soon reach Hann. Münden, where our luggage will be ready for pick-up until 5 pm at the latest. Individual departure or extension of trip.
