Along the Oder, Neisse and Spree

Through earthy natural landscapes...

Cities such as Zittau and Görlitz boast precious buildings in Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, and Neo-Classicist style. We discover castles, splendid farm houses, and monasteries with late baroque splendour, embedded in an earthy natural landscape. A particular highlight of our bicycle tour is the Muskauer Park of the legendary horticulturist, Prince Pückler.

Total length: approx. 323 – 348 bicycle kilometres.

2. Day: Zittau/Althörnitz - Görlitz

Following the romantic Neisse River, we reach Marienthal Abbey with its lovely tended „garden of bible plants“. Farther along the Neisse the path leads us to Görlitz. On a guided city tour we learn more about the Renaissance town.

3. Day: Görlitz - Weißwasser/Krauschwitz/Bad Muskau

Today we cycle via Zentzendorf - culture island “Einsiedelei” (hermitage) - to Bad Muskau. The ingenious horticulturist, Prince Hermann von Pückler-Muskau, designed an approx. 800 ha big, beautiful park after the model of English landscape gardens.

4. Day: Weißwasser/Krauschwitz/Bad Muskau - Guben/Neuzelle/surroundings

Cycling farther along the Neisse we arrive at the beautifully laid out rose garden in Forst. Now we cycle to the divided town of Gruben/Gubin. We will find the historic city centre in the Polish district. Accommodation in Neuzelle/surroundings (the part from Gruben to Neuzelle can also be travelled by train, please organise this on your own; approx. € 5,-- per person, incl. bicycle) and, in individual cases, in Guben, respectively.

5. Day: Guben/Neuzelle/surroundings - Beeskow

Today we cycle through the magical Schlaube Valley to the Spree River, which will accompany us till Berlin. Should we have spent the night in Guben, the distance to Neuzelle can also be cut short by train (please organise this on your own).

6. Day: Beeskow - Fürstenwalde/Alt Madlitz

The Oder-Spree Canal points us the way to one of the most pristine water meadows in Germany. Across the old lock of the Oder-Spree Canal, through dense forests, and past clear lakes, we reach our next place of accommodation.

7. Day: Fürstenwalde/Alt Madlitz - Berlin - Köpenick

For the last time we mount our bikes and follow the romantic Spree River to Erkner. Lake Dämeritz and Lake Müggel invite us for a refreshing swimming break. In the afternoon we cycle to Köpenick, one of the most beautiful suburbs of Berlin. On the suburban train (please organize this on your own) we quickly get to the centre of Berlin. Accommodation in Köpenick.
