A holiday in the Salzkammergut equals pure relaxation! Entranced by the beauties of nature, the many smaller and bigger lakes, green meadows and proud mountain ridges, we enjoy the alpine flair and cordial Austrian hospitality.

Itinerary

1. Day: Salzburg

Individual arrival and accommodation.

2. Day: Salzburg - Holzöstersee (approx. 45 km)

Along the Salzach, we cycle downstream as far as Oberndorf ("Silence Night Chapel). Overnight stay in Holzöster/Dorfibm.

3. Day: Holzöstersee - Trumer Seen/Wallersee (approx. 45 km)

The route leads through Ibmer Moor, one of the most beautiful moors of Middle Europe.

4. Day: Trumer Seen/Wallersee - Mondsee/Attersee (approx. 40 - 55 km)

At first, our route leads us via the European nature reserve Wenger Moor and then further on to Lake Irrsee (also known as Lake Zellersee). At Lake Mondsee, one of the warmest lakes in the Salzkammergut. Equally worth seeing are the castle und the Benedictine Monastery. Accommodation at Lake Mondsee or Lake Attersee.

5. Day: Mondsee/Attersee - Traunsee (approx. 55 km)

We take the ship to Weyregg (mind the seasonal times!). From there, we put the pedal to the metal as we discover the Aurachtal (Aurach valley) and soon reach the lovely ceramic town of Gmunden situated at the marvellous Lake Traunsee (Seeschloss Ort (Lake Castle), Renaissance town hall with ceramic “glockenspiel” (carillon)). Farther in the south situated by the lake lies Traunkirchen, where the old Fischerkanzel (fishers’ pulpit) beckons us for a visit.

6. Day: Traunsee - Hallstätter See - Bad Goisern/Surroundings (approx. 30 km)

In the morning, train ride from Ebensee to Obertraun by Lake Hallstättersee, with the mighty Dachstein glacial massif and the attractive giant glacial caves. We cycle along the lakeshore up to Hallstatt (since 1997 “World Cultural and Natural Heritage” of the UNESCO). The charnel house and the salt mine should absolutely be visited as well, before we embark once again on the ship to take us back to the eastern shore. From there, we continue our tour to Bad Goisern/Surroundings.

7. Day: Bad Goisern/Surroundings - Wolfgangsee (approx. 30 km)

Starting from Bad Goisern/Surroundings, we head along the river Traun into the imperial- and spa town of Bad Ischl, which is full of interesting sights, such as the teahouse of Empress Elisabeth I. of Austria, the “Kaiservilla” (the summer residence of Emperor Franz Joseph I.), and the Lehar villa. Along the Ischler Ache we reach Lake Wolfgangsee. If desired, you may also take the cog railway up to the Schafberg (Sheep mountain) and enjoy a marvellous view from the top.

8. Day: Wolfgangsee - Scharfling - Salzburg (approx. 60 km)

We cycle half of today’s stage on the Ischler train line (from 1891 to 1957, this line was the historic railway connection from Salzburg to Bad Ischl). Along the lakeshore, the way leads us first into the village of St. Gilgen. Along the lakeshore, the way leads us first into the village of St. Gilgen. After a heady downhill ride to Scharfling, we continue further along Lake Mondsee on the second part of the Ischler train line back to Salzburg.

9. Day: Salzburg
