Star ride South Bohemia

Star ride South Bohemia

Scenic ponds, woods, fortresses, and castles…

On this bicycle tour we can start every day afresh and decide whether we want to take up one of the tour suggestions or to stay at our hotel/in Pisek. The former royal city of Pisek, whose name recalls the gold-carrying river sand, lies quietly at the Otava River and counts among the most beautiful cities of Bohemia. Worth seeing are, for instance, the former castle (today’s Prachiner Museum), a historic hydroelectric power plant that is still in use today, and St. Mary’s Church. The medieval stone bridge is the symbol of the city and the oldest preserved building of its type in Bohemia.

1. Day: Pisek

Individual arrival and accommodation.

2. Day: Rezabinec pond and Steken (approx. 35 km)

Today’s route first leads us past several beautiful ponds, among them the famous Rezabinec pond (bird reserve with major nesting site for water birds). In Steken we should absolutely pay a visit to the castle with the palace chapel and the English park before cycling via Kestrany (medieval fortress) back to Pisek.

3. Day: Zvikov Castle and Orlik Castle (approx. 50 km)

Today’s stage offers us an interesting insight into Czech history, and Zvikoc Castle (the “Queen” under the castles of Bohemia) should be included on our lists of things to see at all costs! The subsequent boat trip to Orlik makes romantic hearts beat faster and Orlik Castle invites us to linger. Boat trip back to Zvikov and bicycle tour to Pisek.

4. Day: Pisek

Exploratory tour through Pisek or wellness day at the hotel.

5. Day: Albrechtice nad Vltavou and Protivin (approx. 40 km)

Protected woodlands of the mountain landscape of Pisek are on our agenda today. After an easy to intermediate incline, we reach Albrechtice nad Vltavou with its Roman St. Peter and Paul Church as well as the exceptional cemetery wall (arcade-like burial niches with fresco ornaments). On our long route lie many beautiful ponds and in Protivin we can have a look at a crocodile farm. Bicycle tour back to Pisek.

6. Day: Drhovle Baroque Castle (approx. 30 km)

We cycle leisurely to Drhovle Baroque Castle; apart from that it is possible to visit the rescue centre for endangered species in Nova Ves u Cizove.

7. Day: On the way through the nature reserve (approx. 25 km)

Today the portals of the nature reserve open for us and, after a small incline, we are rewarded by a spectacular view of the region. In Kluky we can visit a chapel from the times of the Hussites.

8. Day: Pisek

Individual departure or extension of trip.
